DESCRIPTION
If you’ve ever experienced mild early-morning stiffness, pain that worsens
upon joint use, inflammation or impaired joint function, then you may have a
condition called osteoarthritis. You are also not alone. It is estimated
that over 40 million Americans have this condition. Osteoarthritis, also
known as degenerative joint disease, is the most common kind of arthritis
and is characterized by cartilage degeneration.
Until recently, it was thought that once the cartilage was worn away, it
could not repair or rebuild itself. Temporary relief was provided with
aspirin or NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs) such as Motrin.
While these options may relieve the pain and inflammation, their long-term
use may have unwanted side effects such as gastric upset and ringing in the
ears. Some studies also indicate that NSAID use can actually inhibit
cartilage repair and accelerate its destruction.
BENEFITS
A Key Building Block. Glucosamine Sulfate stimulates the
manufacture of substances necessary for proper joint function. Glucosamine
Sulfate also helps bind water in the cartilage, providing greater shock
absorption.
Helps Repair Joints. Glucosamine Sulfate is responsible for
stimulating joint repair because it can stimulate new cartilage production.
Easy-to-Use. Formulated in a 750 mg dose, requiring just 2
easy-to-swallow capsules per day.
Natural & Safe. Glucosamine Sulfate is a natural compound, so
it doesn’t produce the negative side effects associated with NSAIDs. And,
Glucosamine Sulfate is safe for diabetics and for individuals allergic to
sulfites†. As a result, the supplement is well tolerated by most
individuals.
Available at Your Doctor’s Office. VitaMedica’s Glucosamine
Sulfate is only available through physicians’ offices. This ensures that you
get a high quality product and the medical support you need - all in one
convenient location.
INDICATIONS
This product is intended for individuals with mild to moderate
osteoarthritis. The product can be used in conjunction with other
procedures, products and guidelines that the doctor recommends.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Nutritional supplements have a very safe track record. However, certain
individuals should seek the advice of their doctor before beginning any
nutritional supplement program particularly diabetics, pregnant or lactating
women.
Diabetics - Even though glucosamine sulfate is comprised of a
sugar molecule, diabetics can typically take the supplement without
experiencing any adverse effects. Please check with your doctor before
beginning a nutritional supplement program.
Allergies to Sulfites - If you are allergic to sulfites, you
can take glucosamine sulfate. Sulfites are used as a preservative in some
foods and can cause an allergic reaction in some individuals (e.g., dried
apricots are preserved with sulfites). Sulfur is a natural, organic compound
that is an essential element used by the body. Sulfate is a form of this
organic sulfur and is safe, and readily used by the body.
Allergies to Shellfish - If you are allergic to shellfish, it
is possible that you can take a glucosamine sulfate supplement. The risk of
an allergic reaction is extremely low because shellfish allergies are caused
by proteins in the shellfish – and glucosamine comes from chitin, a
substance in the shells (lobster, shrimp and crab). Please check with your
doctor before beginning a nutritional supplement program.
DIRECTIONS
Two capsules (total = 1500 mg) can be taken together with food, at any time
of the day. Since glucosamine sulfate is designed to help maintain healthy
joint function and is safe to use, it is advisable to continue its use over
the long-term. Individuals taking diuretics may need to increase the dosage
(20 milligrams per kilogram body weight daily).
Because Glucosamine Sulfate must be incorporated into the joints, you
probably won’t feel the effects of its use for several weeks. This is quite
normal. However, you should expect to notice some improvement within two
months.
